Debt Balance Credit Cards in the United States decreased to 0.84 Trillion USD in the first quarter of 2022 from 0.86 Trillion USD in the fourth quarter of 2021. Debt Balance Credit Cards in the United States averaged 0.76 Trillion USD from 2003 until 2022, reaching an all time high of 0.93 Trillion USD in the fourth quarter of 2019 and a record low of 0.66 Trillion USD in the first quarter of 2014. The New York Fed has designed and established the Consumer Credit Panel, a dataset on household liabilities based on consumer credit data. The Consumer Credit Panel provides detailed quarterly data on a panel of US consumers from 1999 through the present. The unique sampling design provides a random, nationally representative 5% sample of US consumers as well as the members of their households with a credit report.
